The 192nd RS is the group's operational unit and has flown the RF-4C since July 1975. Established as the 192nd Fighter Squadron in April 1948 with the F-51D assigned, the unit was called to active duty in March 1951. It was redesignated the 192nd Fighter-Bomber Squadron and returned to state control in December 1952. The unit became the 192nd FIS in June 1955, and converted to the F-86A. The 152nd FIG was formed in April 1958, with F-86Ls assigned four months later. The squadron re-equipped with RB-57Bs and changed to the 192nd TRS in March 1961. RF-101G/Hs were operated from October 1965, and subsequently the RF-101C until conversion to the RF-4C. The squadron was mobilized between January 1968 and June 1969 with a period of deployment to Itazuke AB, Japan. The unit won the 1986 and 1990 Reconnaissance Air Meet competition held at Bergstrom AFB. The squadron was due to convert to F-4G during 1992, with one example received during August 1991, although plans were changed and the unit retained the reconnaissance role.
